Jasper, sept 2015

We wanted to use our camper more so we planned a fall trip to Jasper.  We ended up in Wapati campground and Friday night we had a nice relaxing walk into town.  We got fries at A&W so we could get ketchup and mustard.  Back at camp we had a nice roaring fire and delicious smokies for dinner.

Next day we rode from Medicine Lake to Maligne Lake, about 22k one way.  It was very challenging, windy and cold and hilly with lots of elevation gain.  We made it to within what I later determined to be about 2k of the end when we decided for M's safety to turn back.

It smelled of smoke where we started riding

We stopped in town for food and bad music at the Whistlers Inn, then met some elk back at camp.

He charged the truck about 2 minutes later

Then back to town for more food and beer and a Riders game!

That night and the next day it rained.  We hit the lovely Miette hot spring on the way home.

Big BC 6

Next we went to the North Island.

Big BC 5

Now I've lost track of the days, but I think I can keep the sequence straight.

On the South Island, we did a few day trips.  We went to a beach on the east side of the island

And then to a beach on the west side of the south island, on the open ocean.  It was beachcombing paradise, with a lot of stuff from Japan.

After a lot of effort we got a fire going and roasted some delicious weenies.  The fire finally took after I threw in a bunch of business cards I had in my wallet.  This seemed appropriate at this stage of the holiday: abandoning my white collar persona and all that.

Big BC day 4ish

Did we spend one night or two in our Prince George B&B?  I can't remember.  In any case, we next got on the ferry to Haida Gwaii.

The rail terminal at Prince Rupert.  A whole lot of containers go from the docks onto the rail line

Kelly, Shelly and Michele on the ferry deck

Walking around near the ferry terminal in Skidegate, waiting to go to the South Island

Out in front of the bed and breakfast we stayed in at Sandspit
