Berg Lake trail, Mt Robson Provincial Park

We arrived at Mt Robson Provincial Park about 5 Pm Friday evening.  Since we were starting late we decided to camp  the first night at Kinney Lake, the first campsite 6km down the trail.  The popular Berg Lake was already full so we picked the neighboring Marmot campground for the second night.  (You have to pick your campsite before you set out.)

The trail starts with a bridge across the glacial Robson River:

Its a flat 6k walk along the river to Kinney Lake.  Real BC country, lush undergrowth and big trees due to the constant rainfall caused by the high mountain:

Kinney Lake is a beautiful alpine blue.  Some of the tent sites are right on the water:

No campfires are allowed and we discovered our stove wasn't working well!  There is a covered shelter with picnic tables where you can cook and hang out.
Its a fairly easy walk to the next campground (Whitehorn).  We had cupasoup and then came the hard climb to Emperor Falls.  600+ meters elevation in 4 km.  this is the Valley of a Thousand Falls.

And then on to our campsite on Berg Lake:

After setting up our tent and eating some delicious Knorr minestrone soup we strolled to the Berg Campsite:
This is the most popular campsite, maybe because it is at the scenic height of the trail and because it has a closed heated shelter.

Berg Lake and the glacier:

And Mt. Robson:

It was cold that night and we were in bed by 7.  Listened to podcasts for a while but still fell asleep early and were up at 6 the next morning.

Walked the 19k out and were done at about 2pm.

Walking out I was struck by the lush forests.

Final impressions and lessons learned?
It is an incredible trail and we highly recommend it.  Beautiful, awesome varied scenery.  Forests, lakes, waterfalls, bridges, mountains, glaciers, etc etc.

It tends to be cold and wet and you cant have a fire so you need good performing clothing and a good stove.  The terrain, particularly the altitude gain, is challenging too.

5k run April 2013

This was the strathcona county victim services run.

It was a little cold but not as bad as the year before.  The interminable aerobics warmup at the beginning was kind of painful (at least 5 songs, I would say) but the rest was good.

I broke 28 minutes & Michele broke 30. HELL YEAH!!!

Birkenbiner winter 2013

This was a 13K? Xc ski tour.
She fell down a few times and complained it "hurt", which I thought was wussy till I saw the tennis ball sized bruise on her backside!

Jasper 2013 May-June

Adventures of a pair of what?

Anyway, it was a rainy weekend but we loved it.  Stayed at Pocahantas campground.
Our teeny trailer

M, what do you think of this campground?
(She loves it!  No rednecks and lots of rules about booze & generators!)

We walked Pocahantas Trail that first Fri evening.

Then Sulpher Skyline the next day

And the hot springs each night.  Aaahhh

Sunday we went down Snaring Road, on the N side of the Athabasca River E of the townsite, which becomes a very rugged one way road.  Cool!

Did the Celestine Lake trail, it got rainy & we turned back at Patricia Lake.

Then the $6.75 cheeseburger special at the Whistle Stop Pub.

It was a great trip.  We met a couple of bigtme mountain enthusiasts that got us fired up to do more, and who gave us some great suggestions (Mt Robson!) and the determination to track our trips better.
